Weather across Georgia

Georgia packs several climates into a small country. The Black Sea coast around Batumi and Kobuleti is humid and subtropical, with mild winters and the most rain in the country. Tbilisi and the east are drier, with hot summers and cold, mostly sunny winters. In the Greater Caucasus — Svaneti, Kazbegi, Tusheti, Gudauri — snow can fall from October to May, and the weather turns quickly.

Planning a trip

For mountain roads, check the forecast for the pass and the destination, not just the city you leave from: the Jvari Pass on the way to Gudauri and Kazbegi, the Abano Pass to Tusheti and the road to Mestia close in heavy snow. Rain on the coast usually comes in heavy showers rather than all-day drizzle, and summer afternoons inland often bring short thunderstorms.

Frequently asked questions

Where does the forecast come from?

From MET Norway, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, whose global model also powers yr.no. Forecasts are refreshed about every hour.

How accurate is a 10-day forecast?

The first two to three days are the most reliable and are shown hour by hour. Beyond five days, treat the forecast as a trend rather than an exact prediction.

Why can mountain resorts differ so much from the valleys?

Temperature drops by roughly 6 °C for every 1,000 m of height, and weather in the Greater Caucasus changes fast. Forecasts for places like Gudauri, Mestia or Bakuriani are calculated for their own altitude.
